From time to time, I get commissioned to draw a pop culture character for a client, and here is my freehand graphite drawing of Sons of Anarchy’s Charlie Hunnam. Link for prints: https://johndibiaseart.com/charlie-hunnam-drawing-print
After kicking the idea around for years, I’ve finally written and illustrated my very own childrens book! “Lloyd the Chipmunk and the Quest for the Perfect Job” tells the story of a little chipmunk named Lloyd who begins to ponder […]
I had the pleasure of meeting Devon from The Office at DunderCon in 2022. He wasn’t a big or popular character on the show, but he is part of one of the most iconic episodes in the series – in […]
If anyone follows the Netflix hit show Stranger Things, they know the new character of Eddie in Season 4 was a huge fan favorite. In 2022, when it came to picking a subject for the next “Songs We’ve Been Trying […]
Knowing my family and I were going to a convention in Pittsburgh to meet some celebrities, I fast-tracked a drawing of Jerry and Newman from an episode of Seinfeld over the course of 2 nights. (I even brought a scanner […]
I’m heading back to a convention for TV’s “The Office” – my third Office convention so far! This time, I’m trying something new and entirely out of my comfort zone by boxing up and shipping my artwork ahead of me […]
Another fun meet-and-greet at DunderCon 2022 was Oscar Nunez, who’s best known for playing Oscar Martinez on the US version of The Office. I drew this iconic pose of his and requested one of my favorite quotes of his – […]
Black Widow was a frequent subject of commission work I’ve done for one client. (But who could get tired of drawing Scarlett Johansson? 🙂 ). I drew this still from 2012’s Avengers freehand in colored pencil (and probably some marker) […]
Also in preparation for DunderCon, I decided to draw Kate Flannery as Meredith Palmer, and also had the wonderful pleasure of meeting her and getting her to sign the original drawing for me. 🙂 Purchase link for prints: https://johndibiaseart.com/meredith-palmer-colored-pencil-drawing-kate-flannery-from-the-office-85-x-11 Kate […]
In anticipation of the first annual DunderCon convention themed for the show The Office, I decided to draw Jackie Debatin as Elizabeth the stripper with Steve Carell’s Michael Scott. I drew it freehand in graphite pencil… and had Jackie sign […]
When we got word that Claudia Wells – who played the original Jennifer Parker in Back to the Future – was going to be at a signing event in New Jersey, we jumped at the chance to go meet her. […]
It’s hardly an understatement to say that Top Gun Maverick was a big hit. I find myself often loving Tom Cruise’s movies and this one was no different. I kind of wanted to do a drawing of Maverick in the cockpit of […]
And then we have yet another graphite portrait… a closer-up drawing with more details. Again (and I’m sure I’ll continue to say this), I’m frequently shuffling in graphite projects with colored pencil ones to give some variety and also some […]
My biggest problem with drawing multiple characters in one drawing is the fine detail. I definitely struggle with that. I love a larger, close-up image that allows for a lot more little details. Still, it’s a nice challenge to try […]
Another commission piece I did was this freehand colored pencil drawing of Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman in “The Batman.” She’s definitely not my favorite Catwoman (Anne Hathaway maybe?), but it was still a nice change of pace to draw. Link […]
Although it means not getting the pleasure of meeting the celebrity in person, I caved and sent in my freehand colored pencil and marker drawing of Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Karen Gillan to be signed by her. I’m glad I did, […]
If you’ve seen Spider-Man: No Way Home, and you’re a fan of the Webbed Wonder, then you know how special this movie was. For this portrait, I decided to draw the image of all three cinematic live action Spider-Man’s in […]
Using VidAngel, a video streaming service that edits stuff you watch for content, I went through the complete Peaky Blinders series. I actually really liked it (even though there’d be times where huge chunks of dialog were edited out completely, […]
Another commissioned piece was Sarah Michelle Gellar in one of her most famous roles – Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I drew this one freehand (as usual) in graphite pencil. Purchase link for prints: https://johndibiaseart.com/buffy-the-vampire-slayer-sarah-michelle-gellar-pencil-drawing-print
Gal Gadot is one of those lovely people I just love to draw. So, if I’m to do mulitple portraits of the same person, it helps that they’re different – if not drastically different – poses and such each time. […]
I remember when they had announced Twilight’s Robert Pattinson would become the next Batman… it sounded like a cruel joke. However, the guy actually made a pretty decent Batman when the film The Batman released with him donning the cowl. I drew […]
I remember being quite surprised to recognize Olivia Wilde as Gozer in Ghostbusters: Afterlife – and I thought it was perfect casting. When it came time to choose characters to draw from the film, I was very interested in taking […]
I love the Marx Brothers, but for some reason, this one took an extremely long time ot finish. It was one of those that I would frequently pick up, do a little work, and put back down for an extended […]
And now for something completely different. One of the neatest things about doing commissions is that it gives me a chance to step outside of my comfort zone, or to venture into subject matter I won’t otherwise ever draw. I […]
I was super thrilled to see the original Ghostbusters return in 2020/2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife. I did several drawings based on characters and scenes from the movie, and wanted to do one of older Peter Venkman. A good portrait image of him […]
After taking a chance on the Amazon show “The Marvelous Mrs Maisel” using VidAngel to edit out the frequent profanity, I found it to be a really great show. I decided to take a stab at drawing Rachel Brosnahan as […]
Here’s yet another commissioned Scarett Johansson drawing as Black Widow. I drew this for a client freehand using colored pencils (and I think some marker?) Link for prints: https://johndibiaseart.com/natasha-scarlett-johansson-in-black-widow-colored-pencil-drawing-print-commission-black-suit
Here’s a freehand colored pencil drawing I did of Mrs. Doubtfire that was commissioned. This one was definitely challenging — especially that danged flower blazer! (Prints are not available because the client wanted exclusivity for the artwork.)
I love Yvonne in Chuck, and have enjoyed seeing her in shows like 24: Live Another Day and the movie Tomorrow War. She’s underrated, if I may say so. I enjoy drawing her, too. I drew this one freehand […]
With that special, emotional ending to 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, I decided to do a freehand colored pencil and marker drawing of Phoebe and Egon from the end scene. Last year, I went to a convention where I met Bob Gunton who […]
