Colored Pencil Drawing of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman

It was hard not to love the new Wonder Woman film, especially Gal Gadot and her performance. I drew Gal as WW once before, but I wanted to do a newer, more flattering pose. For this one, I used marker in the background and then went over it with colored pencil. I also used some marker for her eyes and a white paint pen.

Graphite Pencil Drawing of Kate Beckinsale

I tend to start some drawings and then only work on them intermittently over a course of a few months. This latest Kate Beckinsale attempt is one of those. I haven’t been able to draw her in a way I’m happy with, so this is yet another attempt. I don’t think this is quite there either, but who knows… maybe next time? 😉

Graphite Drawing of Jimmy Stewart

How can you not love Jimmy Stewart? From The Philadelphia Story to It’s a Wonderful Life, he’s just a great actor from a bygone era. This one took a while to finish, but it was completely done in graphite pencil.

Graphite and Colored Pencil Drawing of Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones

I’ve never seen a single episode of Game of Thrones, but this was ordered as a commission piece by a customer for a friend of theirs who has become a faithful supporter of my work. I was thrilled to work on this for them. 🙂

Colored Pencil Drawing of Gisele Bundchen

It’s hard not to love Gisele… just saying. This one is another done entirely in colored pencil. 🙂

Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow with Davy Jones and the Black Pearl

I originally intended this piece to just be a colored pencil portrait of Johnny Depp, but with the Black Pearly worked into it as well. However, I had a hard time working the Black Pearl into the image in a way that wouldn’t influence people to make jokes about… the positioning. Thankfully, my wife Amy suggested the Pearl in the bottle and the rest started falling into place. However, I found myself having to figure out what to do with the space to the right of Jack (his left), so I decided on a graphite drawing of Davy Jones. It was meant to be light, but I kept making it a little darker because it seemed TOO light. Then I decided to add the kraken tentacles behind him. Finally, as a last stroke of inspiration, I added in Jack’s compass, which also served as a solution for the space on the other side of the bottle!

Colored Pencil Drawing of Marty McFly and the Delorean from Back to the Future

To complete the unofficial trilogy of heroes and their vehicles, I decided to do a full color Marty McFly with his Delorean. And, as I was working on it, decided to put the clock tower in in the background as well.

Graphite Drawing of Olga Kurylenko

This one was a bit of a challenge to pull back and try detail a little smaller. I liked the image and I wanted to give it a try… and when it was finished, I decided to add a little color by splashing some purple colored pencil off to the side to give it a little extra flavor. While I may still revisit Olga in a more detailed close-up drawing in the future, she saw this on social media and still liked it enough to share. 🙂 (Thanks, Olga!)

Colored Pencil Drawing of Rachel Weisz

I’ve drawn Rachel before, but I haven’t been satisfied with how those drawings have turned out. I liked the source photo for this one — especially with the red in it — and was inspired to take a stab at it.

Colored Pencil Drawing of Chris Pratt as Star-Lord with the Milano (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2)

Continuing with an unofficial series of heroes with their rides, I followed Jyn with this colored pencil drawing of Chris Pratt as Star-Lord / Peter Quill from “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2” and his spaceship, The Milano. This one was drawn entirely in colored pencil. Fun fact – I worked on this while on vacation in Disney World the week before the film’s release. And when it did release, I wanted to see it so badly, I went to the movie theater all by myself for the first time ever. It was weird, not gonna lie. But I’m glad I made the effort. As an introvert, going to the movies alone is no easy task. 🙂
