Colored Pencil Drawing of Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as John Watson

sherlock-and-watson-blue-copy
I love the BBC show Sherlock and have done a couple drawings of these guys before (several years ago now), but I’ve never drawn them in color. The reference photo I used for this drawing not only was saturated in blue colors, but had the guys standing further apart. I decided to squeeze them into the same frame and keep the blue tones. I’m a little on the fence on if I like the blues in this, but it was definitely a challenge to do overall.

Colored Pencil Sketch of Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins in “The Hobbit” Trilogy

bilbo colored pencilWhile working on a commission piece and also while working on another portrait, I felt inspired to visit Blick and get some different papers to experiment on. Also, I wanted to try my hand at some quick original drawings that I could work on in a few hours and sell the original of to anyone interested.

I started with this one of Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins on Toned Tan paper using some graphite to lay it out freehand and then colored pencil to fill it in (and also lay out the rest). This one took about 3 hours while watching TV as I worked on it.

The original is currently up on Etsy with prints probably being posted in the future.

Drawing of Martin Freeman as John Watson in BBC’s Sherlock

John-Watson

Somehow I missed posting this one, but I did really enjoy working on Sherlock’s Watson. I love Martin Freeman as an actor and I originally hadn’t planned on drawing him as Watson, but after watching the show–and then drawing Benedict — I felt I needed to add Watson.

For this one, I desperately tried to push myself with adding in detail to the work. I am pretty pleased with the end result.

Pencil Portrait of Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins from The Hobbit

Bilbo-Baggins_crop-600---Copyright

Following seeing The Hobbit, I felt inspired to draw this Martin Freeman suited up as Bilbo Baggins. The detail in the shirt was definitely a challenge, but it felt worth it in the end. It was done entirely with just regular wood drawing pencils I believe.
