White-on-black drawing isn’t the easiest, but sometimes when I see certain black-and-white photos, I feel like they could possibly work in this format.
I don’t remember where I first saw this image of the lovely Stana Katic, but I think it was before she started using the original photo as her profile photo (but I could be wrong… I may have just forgotten that that is where I’d found it originally 🙂 ). What I usually do is keep a folder of photos I’d like to potentially try to draw some day, so one night I turned to this one and gave it a shot. I struggled with the proportions and getting it just right, and also used a mix of grays with the white to try to push the realism if possible.
After working on it, taking a break, and then coming back to it several times over the course of a few weeks, I decided one night to just finish it. A little self-conscious about the results, I still decided to post it to Instagram/Twitter. I was surprised that people seemed to like it… but even more so when Stana herself re-Tweeted it later that evening. (See below 🙂 )
My Twitter feed ended up exploding with Stana fans offering their encouraging feedback and it really lifted my heart that night. 🙂
