Colored Pencil Drawing of Tiffani Thiessen

While I was a lot younger than the characters on screen at the time, I did grow up watching Saved By The Bell, and who didn’t love Tiffani Amber Thiessen as Kelly Kapowski? In more recent years, I loved her role in the show White Collar.

I’m wanting to improve at my freehand colored pencil portrait skills, so I found this lovely picture of Tiffani Thiessen and decided to take a stab at it.

Colored Pencil Drawing of Han and Leia (Harrison Ford & Carrie Fisher) from Star Wars

han-and-leia-copySigh. It’s hard to believe Carrie Fisher is really gone…

I use my iPad as a way to display the source photo I’m drawing so I can look at the image and then try to replicate it on the paper nearby (by eyeballing it). Anyway, I keep a folder of images I like that I’d like to possibly draw someday and this was one that was in it for quite a while. Well… with Carrie’s passing, I thought it was time to try it.  (Freehand colored pencil)

It now hangs in our dining room.

Colored Pencil Drawing of Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling in “La La Land”

la-la-land-copyAmy and I used to have date nights almost every week when our preschooler son would stay over at his grandparents. But with him in school now, date nights are few and far in between. Right after Christmas this past year, we had one rare night out and I decided to surprise her by taking her to see La La Land. All I knew about it was that Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling were in it, it was getting great reviews, and it was a musical. Turns out, she LOVED it, and so did I, and I decided to attempt a freehand drawing of the pair. It was … tricky to say the least, but she seems to love the drawing, so I suppose that’s all that matters 😉  But you can be sure I won’t be doing anything quite this complicated again for a while 😉

Colored Pencil Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) Portrait

picard-star-trek-copyI grew up watching Star Trek (in addition to Star Wars. We can like BOTH, people.), but I especially liked Star Trek: The Next Generation as a pre-teen. I’ve done a couple drawings of original Star Trek characters before, but never anyone from TNG. Picard marks the first… (Although, fun fact, as I was learning to draw, I did a bunch of sketches of the ships from the show. I still have them somewhere…)

Pencil Drawing of Evangeline Lilly

evie-hands-copySometimes I see a photo and just really feel inspired to try to draw it. I loved Evangeline Lilly in the show LOST and was honored when she shared one of my previous drawings on her social media channels. But, truth be told, I haven’t been completely satisfied with any of my drawings of her yet. So when I was between drawings, I decided to take a stab at this one (and honestly, I started it once, it wasn’t turning out, so I scrapped it. I then tried again a few nights or a week later). I do kind of like this one, but I still doubt it’ll be the last time I draw Evie 😉

Colored Pencil Drawing of Diego Luna as Cassian Andor in “Star Wars Rogue One”

cassian-rogue-one-scarif-copyI loved Star Wars: Rogue One and wanted to do a portrait of Cassian. This was definitely a tricky one to work on. (Freehand colored pencil)

Colored Pencil Drawing of Abigail Spencer

abigail-spencer-copyI absolutely love the new TV show Timeless. Abigail Spencer is one of the main characters, playing a historian traveling through time. And when I wanted to draw her, it was tough to decide on a picture to draw, but I liked this one. The angle was definitely a challenge, but I like how the color turned out.

Pencil Drawing of Margot Robbie

Another drawing I hadn’t finished was a pencil portrait of Margot Robbie. (And I finished this one while watching a review copy of Suicide Squad… which she was excellent in, but the movie wasn’t great). This too is a freehand pencil drawing.

Colored Pencil Drawing of Jessica Alba

After finishing Gerard, I decided it was high time to finish some portraits that I’d started but never completed. This one was started in September and wasn’t finished until early December!
