I had started this freehand colored pencil drawing of Abigail Spencer in the fall of 2018 and didn’t complete it until Feb 2019. This one was wildly frustrating to work on because I had used both Prismacolor and Faber Castell pencils, but apparently they don’t play very nicely together. Because of Prismacolor’s more waxy base, they tend to sometimes clash with the FC pencils when things get darker. While I think it turned out “OK,” it was a miserable piece to work on… and although I loved the color in the original source photo, I probably would have been better off attempting this portrait in black and white (graphite).
By the way, side note: I just loved her in the short-lived TV show, Timeless.
