Colored Pencil Drawing of Han and Leia (Harrison Ford & Carrie Fisher) from Star Wars

han-and-leia-copySigh. It’s hard to believe Carrie Fisher is really gone…

I use my iPad as a way to display the source photo I’m drawing so I can look at the image and then try to replicate it on the paper nearby (by eyeballing it). Anyway, I keep a folder of images I like that I’d like to possibly draw someday and this was one that was in it for quite a while. Well… with Carrie’s passing, I thought it was time to try it.  (Freehand colored pencil)

It now hangs in our dining room.

Updated Han Solo Colored Pencil Portrait

While talking to a coworker about this drawing, we wondered why I never just drew the part of his gun that was cut off in the original drawing and put them together for the prints made of it. … so I went home that night and did just that (and reworked his face a little bit and some of the other details). It was kind of fun, and it was satisfying to have fixed it.

Colored Pencil Drawing of Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones

Indy-in-color-copyI love Indiana Jones. And between Han Solo and Indy, Harrison Ford is easily one of my favorite actors. I’ve done a couple Indiana Jones drawings through the years, but I haven’t really made one I’ve been proud of. This one was definitely a challenge, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out…

Colored Pencil Drawing of Harrison Ford as Han Solo

Han-Solo-Awakens-Full-Color-copyAfter having drawn a colored pencil / pencil hybrid of Han, I decided I wanted to try my hand at a fully colored pencil Han Solo — with full intentions of hanging it in my basement, where I do all my drawing. So I ended up doing my best to push myself with the detail and color and really try to make myself satisfied with the end result (which is a rarity). For the most part, I’m pretty happy with how Han turned out. 🙂 … and he currently hangs above my TV in the basement. 🙂

Pencil Drawing of Harrison Ford as Han Solo with Chewbacca and the Millenium Falcon

Han-Solo-Awakens-copyWith Han Solo being my favorite Star Wars character of all the films and extended canon, The Force Awakens definitely hit a sweet spot, so to speak. I loved seeing Han again, but it also left me with a need for closure. Ha… so this was my first homage to Han… but I wasn’t totally content with it….

More Original Pieces Up for Sale

It’s time for me to part with some more of my original works. I store them in my portfolios and I realize they’re just being “wasted” hidden in between pages of other hidden works — when people can be enjoying them on their walls or wherever. The pricing depends on how much I really rather keep it, the amount of time that goes into them, the popularity of the actor/character, and what it might cost if it were a commission piece.

Here’s a gallery of all the originals I just added to my etsy store. Once these originals are sold, that’s it! So get them while you can!

Colored Pencil Drawing of Harrison Ford as Han Solo

Truth be told, colored pencil is outside my comfort zone. However, I see other artists do INCREDIBLE things with it all the time, and it makes me want to push myself to get better at it. I decided I want to try my hand at more colored pencil work and to try some portraits entirely in colored pencil. Unfortunately, I’m still a little too broad with my strokes and not able to get the detail fine enough where it doesn’t just look like I colored something with crayons. However, I hope to work on improving that (God willing 🙂 )

Drawing of Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones

This drawing has kind of an interesting story. I started it on February 5, 2009 and worked on it for a total of five different times during that month before abandoning it. I really didn’t like how it looked and I didn’t like feeling like I was wasting time on it. And, at the time, I wasn’t drawing regularly anymore.

After finishing the Minority Report sketch that I had similarly stopped working on in 2002, I was inspired to then pick up and rework/finish this one. I resumed work on it on May 6, 2013 and worked on it every night, missing one consecutive evening, until May 15. (It’s the same paper, same drawing as the original, just altered with lots of erasing and layering on top of what was already there.)

Ironically, one of my least favorite drawings has become one of my new favorites…

Below is a phone snap of the drawing that I recently took of its 2009 status before I started working on it again…

Han Solo Portrait

I’d started a drawing of Han Solo about eight or nine years ago, but never finished it. So last fall, while I couldn’t find the first drawing, I started a new one during a new season of drawings. This one is from Empire, I believe, and I used an array of different pencil weights to complete it. I hadn’t finished it come last month, but took some time to wrap it up one evening.

Tonight I found the original unfinished Han Solo drawing and hope to finish it up this weekend!
